Mir Abidur Rahman
The fate of Bangladesh Police was sealed when the first shot of bullet was fired at Rajarbag against the Pakistani Military; the resistance by the Bengali members of police at Rajarbag is basically the first chapter of armed struggles during our War of independence. Many police personnel embraced martyrdom on 25 March 1971 fighting bravely with mere .303 rifles against the Pakistani invaders. It was the first step towards the emergence of a new glorious Police of a soon to be independent nation.
The father of our nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s dream was to create a People Oriented Police Force; Bangladesh Police is currently moving towards the path of glory by following the principle and ideals of Bangabandhu.
People Oriented Proactive Policing:
The concept of Community and Beat Policing is creating a paradigm shift in the field of relationship between Police and General People. The slogan of Bangladesh Police for Mujib Year (2020-21; on the occasion of the centennial birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) is, “A people-oriented police is the promise of Mujib Year.” Inspector General of Bangladesh Police, Dr. Benazir Ahmed BPM (Bar) has introduced and customized Beat Policing here in Bangladesh, from the center to the remotest corners of the country. In such events, law enforcement must respond as fast as possible to serve the victim.
